Best Article of 09

December 3 Article. What’s an article that you read that blew you away? That you shared with all your friends. That you Delicious’d and reference throughout the year.

Erm, article? Cause I have sooo much time to read! I gave up on Google Reader a while ago because it just doesn’t let me nicely rearrange my feeds. Most of what I read is for class, and it’s really boring.

I did discover Edward Tufte and his books. I’m pretty sure I’ve referenced them a whole lot this year.

Some of these Best of 09 things make for really boring posts!

Best Restaurant Moment

December 2 Restaurant moment. Share the best restaurant experience you had this year. Who was there? What made it amazing? What taste stands out in your mind?

September 5. My grandmother and uncle drove up from North Carolina. We managed to get the whole family together, eleven people total. As my family descended upon Max & Erma’s (they have grandma’s wine there) we took over a few tables and then fought about whether they would be singing “Happy Birthday” to me. I explicitly forbade it, going so far as to threaten not tipping if they did. It worked. I’m not into being needlessly embarrassed. I dislike that kind of attention.

Full Cast:

  1. Grandma
  2. Uncle Boo
  3. Mom
  4. Sister
  5. The Brother
  6. Brother’s Girlfriend
  7. Aunt Yo-Yo
  8. Uncle No-shoes
  9. Cousin #1
  10. Cousin #2
  11. Me

I don’t remember what I ate or how it tasted. It was just so fantastic to have us all together because it happens so rarely. And probably for good reason too!

It was a great deal of fun and then we all went back to my house. My not very large and actually pretty small house. We played Apples to Apples, even grandma. It was a blast. No one killed anyone, in fact there were barely any snide remarks made.

Best Trip in 2009

December 1 Trip. What was your best trip in 2009?

After I finished my spring semester I headed west to Colorado Springs. My best friend and I drove even further west, camping along the way. The plan was to end up at the Grand Canyon and I was going to fly out of Phoenix. Neither of us realized just how much driving we were going to be doing. We both expected more hiking and camping. It was still beautiful and I got to spend a good solid week with her.

Some unexpected family things ended our vacation a little sooner than we hoped. We never made it to the Grand Canyon. But that’s okay because we have plans to go back some day, together.
