8. Not Now

I’ve been battling something. I wake with a sore throat, but nothing else. As the day progresses I feel better and better. Like I can tackle the world and I’m ready to go. And, then it’s bedtime. The last few nights I’ve taken a Nyquil, but that’s left me groggy and still with a sore throat when I wake. So. Not. Cool.

This evening started with the congestion. Just one side of my face though. At least everything is, um, clear… in color I mean. Yeah, gross I know. I just know that it’s not an infection. Tomorrow I try allergy pills. Oh, my life is so fun sometimes!

Sickie Saga

It’s Saturday already. The slow and empty week I was supposed to have got sucked into taking care of the sick boyfriend. He’s not high maintenance but when he’s sick I feel useless so the whole “taking care of sickie” takes over. Also, normally I hate stairs but I will run up and down countless times, over and over, to get him OJ, make him eggs, find his water bottle, bring something in from the car, you get the point.

I am not complaining, I love being useful and taking care of him. He’s very independent and there is little that I can do for him that he can’t already do better and faster. I guess we’re both like that; I hate when he dotes on me. I feel like he could be doing more useful things. But when I was sick [read: tonsillectomy]  he took care of me the same way. He even made a cow bell with fancy leather cords for the handle. I’ll have to get a picture of it, it’s really very nice. I didn’t use it though because I think I despise “ringing” for him. Especially when he was just in the next room and was doting on me whenever I was awake. He even went as far as waiting until the drugs knocked me out to cook real food for himself. I was on the horrid diet of broth, jello, and hot tea. I’m sure I’m a really whinny sickie too.

He spent a few days this week with rolling fevers. They’d come and hang out for a few hours and then break. Lather, rinse, repeat. I was mainly worried about him because of the bronchitis he’s prone to. I dragged him to MedExpress where we found out it’s just the flu. I’m glad it was just the flu and hopefully it won’t turn into bronchitis or pneumonia. [I feel the need to point out I spelled that right on the first try!] He’s still got a cough, and an aching head and abs from it, but no fever for 2 days now and a lot more energy. He even made dinner last night.

Of course I knew he was fine the other day when he asked for a cheeseburger and fries. I wasn’t worried at all. Uh huh.

Best Laid Plans

I wasn’t going to eat out this month. I was going to save money. It was going to be great. And then he got sick.

The Boy spent last weekend in Ohio hanging out with some friends. It was his birthday and neither of us puts much stock in the “this is how you are supposed to do things” deal so I didn’t care he was going to be not with me. I had a ton of stuff to do last weekend anyway. It’s also way easier to bake like a madwoman when he’s not in the house.

He sent me a text Tuesday morning on his way home, “Soooooo sick…”. The best part of this is that he wasn’t coming straight home, he had a day of work. He works hard too. Very few people could top how many hours he’s worked straight through. And he doesn’t sit, on his job he is constantly moving. Not going to lie, I would die if I had to do his job. I’m pretty careful not to complain about my job to him because, well I have it easy.

They sent him home early. Early is relative, as in they sent him home after only 12 hours. I could have, and probably should have, nagged him about not working and etc. But he’ll do what he’s going to do. When he’s really sick he’ll let me baby him, before that not so much.

As soon as he came home I turned around and left to do the grocery shopping. Having only one car sucks sometimes. I had a list and coupons and all that jazz. He called me while I was out to add things, cough drops, NyQuil/DayQuil, Mucinex, etc. I gathered all the supplies and dethroned @JustRightJim from his Mayorship at Costco. It was a good evening of shopping.

After I unloaded groceries I was chatting up my neighbor about him, saying that I was trying to get him to go see the dr. He get bronchitis very easily and around this time of the year. Just as I was telling her that he’s not coughing anything up so it’s not bronchitis, he sends me a text saying, “So, the bronchitis has settled in. Any point from now on would be okay to see a doctor. Also: cheeseburger and fries?”

HAH. I took him to MedExpress. They were really great. Faster than our dr’s office for sure. They didn’t test him for flu, just assuming it is, all the symptoms match. If his fever/s don’t go away in a day or two then we’ll go back.

Then I took him to McDonalds. At this point I was just so happy he wanted to eat.
